Two months before GTA 6 drops on November 19th, the internet is currently elbow-deep in 200 gigabytes of Rockstar's internal files and what's in there is wild. The data originates from the 2022 Lapsus$ hack but has only now started circulating widely, meaning the timing couldn't be more perfectly chaotic. Whether this is a headache for Rockstar or just free hype is debatable, but for longtime GTA fans? This is the good stuff.

The headline find is a scrapped Liberty City DLC for GTA 5. Rockstar was apparently working on bringing back the GTA IV map as a full expansion for GTA 5, and it never saw the light of day. That stings a little, honestly. Liberty City in GTA 5's engine would have been something special, and knowing it existed in some form before getting shelved is the kind of thing that sits with you. The community has been speculating about this possibility for years, and it turns out those hopes weren't entirely unfounded.

The obvious question hanging over all of this: does any of it come back as GTA 6 DLC? Liberty City as a post-launch expansion for GTA 6 is already being floated around, and honestly, the business case writes itself. Rockstar has never been shy about monetizing nostalgia, and with GTA Online's model already proven, a Liberty City map drop would be a license to print money. Whether that's exciting or exhausting probably depends on your relationship with GTA Online at this point.
