Quest Log — Kingdom Come: Deliverance — A Night You Won't Remember, A Sermon You Won't Forget

Welcome to Quest Log, a brand new weekly series here at GamesWrite where I highlight the most memorable quest from whatever game landed on my desk that week. If you're new here, let me explain how this works. I don't always finish the games I play — I have a one-week window to experience as much as I can before writing my review and moving on to the next title. That's the reality of content creation. But the upside? I get to experience a lot of games, and every now and then a quest comes along that absolutely refuses to leave my brain. That's what Quest Log is all about. No major spoilers — just enough to spark a conversation about the moments that stick with you.

This week I've been playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance — Royal Edition on the Switch 2, and folks, the quest I want to talk about is an absolute gem. Without giving away too much of the main investigation, you eventually find yourself in the village of Uzhitz following a lead on a truly grim scene involving murdered villagers and slaughtered horses. You're directed to the local priest who has information critical to your case. Simple enough, right? Except he won't talk. Not unless you sit down and have a few drinks with him first.

What followed was one of the most genuinely hilarious and surprisingly human sequences I've experienced in an RPG in years. A few drinks turned into a full-blown bender. We got thrown out of the tavern. We picked a fight with the local law. We ran. We climbed the bell tower and woke up the entire village — and yes, I have a screenshot of the good Father himself hurling out the tower window that I will treasure forever. The night continued with some, shall we say, pleasant company, and I eventually woke up in a field surrounded by sheep while the priest crawled around on all fours going "maaa maaa." I wish I was making this up.

But here's where it gets really good. We stumbled back to his house, passed out again, and when morning hit, the priest realized he had a sermon to deliver and was in absolutely no condition to give it. He begged me to step in, referencing a sermon he'd told me about during our drunken escapades. I still needed his information for the investigation, so what choice did I have? I stood up in front of the entire congregation, visibly hammered, and delivered a sermon. And the townsfolk loved it. I have the screenshot to prove it — the villagers praising my words while Henry could barely stand straight.

This is the kind of side content that separates a great RPG from a good one. Yes, the quest gave me gold, experience, and story progression. But I didn't care about any of that. I cared because it made me laugh, it surprised me, and it felt like a genuine adventure rather than a checklist item. Too many games pad their runtime with "collect 15 pelts" busywork. Kingdom Come: Deliverance handed me a drunk priest, a bell tower, some sheep, and a sermon — and created a memory I'll be talking about for years. That's how you do side quests.

What's a quest from any game that's lived rent-free in your head? Drop it in the comments — I'd love to hear about it. And I'll see you next week with a new entry in the Quest Log.
